High Five for Friday!

Happy Friday Friends!

I’m linking up with Lauren over at from my grey desk!

For me it feels like Tuesday… Thursday was my Monday this week but Friday is my Friday.
Woot Woot!

1) Beaver Lake
We went down to Beaver Lake from Friday night to Wednesday.
 It. Was. Wonderful.
I enjoyed spending time with family, playing in the lake, crafting and watching the stars.
 I can’t wait until my mom and her siblings are able to build down there.
P.S. Thanks Houseworth cousin’s for welcoming us with open arms! We love you!

 2) Tea Party
Wednesday night was the last night of the Juicy Fruit Girl’s Bible study.
We threw a tea party and a modesty fashion show.
Oh, and I forgot to take pics with my own camera so I’m working on getting some. The girls LOVED it!
The space turned out wonderful and the girls looked cute in their thought out outfits and braided hair.
Most importantly, Jesus was the focus!
I’m thinking I need a whole separate post for this…

3) Girl Time
My mom and sister have been in town for quite some time.
 Yay for lots of shopping, crafting and hair doing!

{pin curl completion}

4) Surprises
My mom and sis were supposed to go home yesterday.
They are staying until Tuesday!

5) Opportunity
My dad had/has important business meetings yesterday and today.
 Mike has a phone interview with (what appears) to be a better employer next week.
Please pray these things go well!

What fun things are going on in your life?
How is your summer?

I love when conversations get started on here so feel free to jump in!

High Five for Friday

I'm linking up with Lauren today because it's FRIDAY!

Photobucket

ONE. Thrifting
I went shopping at thrift stores with my mom and hubby.
We always find crazy things... and super cute things!
I got a new vase, silver slip on shoes (true story, and their awesome!), and two new shirts!
{creepy eye found thrifting}

TWO. Juicy Fruit
I have loved doing the 5th and 6th grade girls Juicy Fruit bible study.
They are so fun!
This coming Wednesday is our last day together. :(

THREE. Riley's hair cut
I'm sure it seems odd that I want to even mention someone else's hair cut...
but I have been wait for this day for soo long!!!
Doesn't she look GREAT?!
{photo via her boyfriend's fb}

FOUR. Rainbows
You want to know what the true symbolism of a rainbow is?
It is God's promise, and a beautiful one it is.
Genesis 9:8-17
I saw an amazing rainbow at about 6:45am on my way to work.
Our God is amazing and His creation is my favorite.

FIVE. Air Conditioning
It's been 103+ for the last week and that's continuing until...???
Need I say more?
{ew}

How was your week?
Fantastic I hope!

Love you all!

High Five it up!

It's nice to be a part of the "Friday means 2 days off" club...

What makes me most happy for this Friday, is that my mom is here! I'm very excited to spend some time with her. She is a cool lady and I enjoy our relationship.

ONE. Employment.
Mike started his new job on Monday.
So thankful that both of us are employed!

TWO. 100th Birthdays.
My great aunt Lizzy turned 100 last week!
On Saturday, there was a party put on by her church. They are such sweet people and I’m so glad that she is surrounded by people who love her.
Because of this fun party, we had quite a bit of family there.

THREE. Window Shopping.
Mike and I always have fun window shopping together.
Check out these super cute chairs from TJMaxx!

FOUR. Mitzy.
Boy does she make our lives interesting!!
While I was reorganizing/cleaning out the mudroom closet this week, she was having a blast exploring and being a fun pest. But I use pest in a fun way. When I searched the thesaurus, some nasty words came up, so a fun pest she is!

FIVE. Cooking.
It’s so great to be cooking again! I don’t think I realized I missed it.
I feel like it’s one of the ways I show Mike I care about him and love him. While he was in limbo between school and work for 2.5 months, he always made dinner. Don’t get me wrong, it was awesome but I’m just glad to be doing it. J

What is your favorite recipe? Feel free to share in the comments!
I would love to try them out.

Victory

I have a riddle of sorts for you today.

What does...

 {Mitzy. our crazy, crazy kitzy}

+

 {cardboard}

 +

{pink blingy scissors, that hubby did NOT use}

+

 {determined, gangsta hubby}

=

are you ready for this..?

{cardboard protected box spring}

AND

{a victorious husband}
{it was bed time when I took this pic and time for the ultimate test.}
{Mike - PASS. Mitzy - FAIL}

Mitzy has a bad habit of "plucking" our box spring.
I say plucking because she doesn't really scratch it
but she puts her claws in the box spring and then pulls.
It wakes both of us up, drives us crazy and causes harm to our box spring.

Thanks to hub's mastermind, she can no longer "pluck" our box spring.
Well, most of our box spring.
Now she does it on the exposed sides of our bed...
 I refuse to have a cardboard bed.

Did you know you can actually purchase a bed made of cardboard?!
Just Google it!

DIY Embellished Dish Towels

It's time for a tutorial!!!

It's been a while people!

I have made a few sets of these Embellished Dish Towels.
This set was for my Great Aunt Lizzy.
We celebrated her 100th birthday this last weekend!
 I know this seems an odd gift for such a mile stone, but she will be moving into a retirement community and everyone could use new dish towels!
Ok, moving on!

{supplies}

Here are the supplies you need:
Towel(s)
Fabric(s)
Scissors
Thread
Coordinating ribbon or something similar
Pins
Sewing Machine
Rotary Cutter (optional)
Cutting Board (optional)

Let's get started!

1) Open the dish towel to determine how wide you should cut the fabric.
Be sure to cut it wide enough to "wrap" the edges around
the sides of towel (you will be sewing it down).
Cut and pin fabric to towel.

{blurry shot of pinned edges, sorry!}

2) Sew the fabric to the towel.
Be sure to keep the needle of your sewing machine
in the "down" position when turning the corner.

{folded corners}

{sewn edges}

3) Cut your ribbon (or other fun accent) the same length of the fabric.
Pin and sew.

{sewing the corners}

4) You're done!

{pretty update}

{bright colors}

Now, go do the same to the other towel and fabric choices you have.
Enjoy your new towel set or give as a fun gift!
Aunt Lizzy loved hers!

Mitzy helping out as usual. ;)

If anyone has questions about any thing in the tutorial
(sewing, fabric choosing, whatever) let me know!

Friday!
 I feel like I had 3 this week.
Tuesday, because of the holiday;
Thursday, because I have today off;
and today because, well, it's Friday!

We are headed down to Enid, OK today to celebrate
my Great Aunt Lizzy's 100th birthday!!!!
Leave her some love!

Now on to what went down last week...

ONE. Baptism
Husband was baptized on Sunday evening!
Our church hosted a church picnic with baptisms in the lake to follow.
It has been such a joy to see Mike grow in his faith and relationship with Jesus
Watching an adult go through these processes is different
than watching a child and it's interesting and wonderful.

TWO. Color Run Kansas City 2012
I did my first 5k on Sunday!
 I participated in The Color Run.
It was such fun supporting a great charity (Ronald McDonald House KC) with friends.
And of course it was great to get dirty and colorful and exercise!
Oh, and Husband is the bomb. He was up and ready to help with anything.

THREE. Crafting
In the last 2 weeks I have worked on 3 different projects
Two are complete, one is still in progress.
This is fantastic news as I haven't done much crafting in a while.

FOUR. History
I am so grateful for that sacrifices that were made for this country to become great.
We had a great day with old and new friends.
Please continue praying for our leaders!

FIVE. Coffee
Because of the holiday this week, we didn't get as much
sleep as we should have at different times.
Therefor, coffee is my buddy.
We're on a first name basis. ;)
But seriously, I've been leaving for work about 6:30am.
I really do love coffee.
